Castiel watched as two humans indulged in carnal pleasure. The noises the men made were almost animalistic, tall grass was crushed under the weight of their sweat covered bodies. No matter how much he studied it, copulation was an enigma to Castiel; the two men yelled as if in pain, but they also laughed and kissed each other as if they were enjoying it.
Castiel wondered what it would be like to be in a vessel. He had no desire to fornicate, but he often wondered if being in a human body would help him understand them. It was a foolish thought, being given a vessel was an honor reserved for only the fiercest angels, and even Michael said Castiel was more bookish than fierce.
Castiel looked down as Jimmy's hand and flexed his fingers. Jimmy's bones felt stiff. When he was in his true form, Castiel felt light; he could spread his wings and soar on the wind, but in this vessel Castiel felt slow, heavy and uncomfortably numb. Jimmy's soul came between Castiel and the world. Castiel always thought of Jimmy's soul as something akin to thick armor.
Castiel quickly discovered that being numb could be a useful tool. He could be shot, stabbed, hung on a hook, and all Castiel would feel would be a slight warmth as his Grace healed his vessel. Sometimes however, Castiel wondered what would be like to feel the wind on his vessel's face.
Anna kissed Dean and Castiel was certainly not thinking about what it would be like to feel Dean's hands and lips on his body. That was the kind of thinking that could lead to falling and he was nothing at all like Anna. Castiel did wonder when had he started thinking of his vessel's body as his own.
